Community invited to ribbon cutting on Aug. 6 at Harlingen Medical Center

HARLINGENA ribbon-cutting event for a new Advanced Surgical Institute at Harlingen Medical Center will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at 5 p.m. at Harlingen Medical Center (in the front lobby), 5501 S. Expressway 77 in Harlingen.

The community is invited to join with local physicians and hospital staff “as we celebrate a new era of surgical excellence and expanded access to advanced care for the communities we serve,” said Todd Mann, CEO of Harlingen Medical Center.

“This exciting milestone represents our continued commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centered surgical care with compassion, precision, and excellence,” Mr. Mann added.

The Advanced Surgical Institute at HMC is designed to provide a boutique-style, personalized experience for patients undergoing elective procedures.

“Our goal is for patients to feel like they’re receiving care in a specialty surgical center rather than experiencing a traditional hospital stay,” Mr. Mann said. “The Advanced Surgical Institute at HMC will emphasize comfort and convenience — and personalized attention will set this institute apart.”

Surgeries offered at the Advanced Surgical Institute at HMC may include various types of endoscopic, general, orthopedic, and urology procedures.

The ribbon-cutting event will feature food and refreshments, as well as educational information on advances in minimally-invasive surgical techniques – including robotic-assisted surgery with HMC’s da Vinci Xi Surgical System.

Harlingen Medical Center is an award-winning hospital for heart care, and has been named a 5-star recipient for pacemaker procedures for six years in a row (2021-2026) by Healthgrades, a national healthcare information company.  In addition, Harlingen Medical Center has been recognized by Healthgrades as a 5-star recipient for hip fracture treatment for 19 years in a row (2008-2026)

Also, Harlingen Medical Center is the only hospital in Cameron County which has received the highest rating for patient safety, an “A” grade in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade ratings, for 10 times in a row (from 2021 to 2026).

Most recently, Harlingen Medical Center was recognized as the only hospital in Cameron County — and one of only four hospitals in the Rio Grande Valley — to receive a 5-star award for top patient outcomes from Forbes, a national business magazine. The Forbes Top Hospitals 2026 list is designed to provide consumers with unbiased information to help them choose the best hospitals for their healthcare needs, according to Forbes.

The methodology used by Forbes for its star ratings placed the most weight on clinical outcomes (such as rates of mortality, survival, infection and readmissions) — so that patient outcomes had the most impact on each hospital’s overall rating. Harlingen Medical Center was one of only 14 hospitals in the state to receive the overall 5-star recognition from Forbes.
