A conference for all South Texas physicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, medical students and other health professionals will celebrate its 25th anniversary this April on South Padre Island featuring a renowned motivational speaker and singer / rapper known as “Dr. Z-Dogg”.

“We are very excited to have Zubin Damania, MD, an internationally-known presenter and entertainer, coming to the Valley all the way from Las Vegas,” said Dr. Robert Sepulveda, Internal Medicine Physician in Weslaco and Chairman of the 25th Annual Rio Grande Valley Medical Education Conference & Exposition, which will be held Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 at the Isla Grande Resort on South Padre.

“Z-Dogg, MD actually sings and raps during his presentations,” Dr. Sepulveda added. “He has been a keynote speaker at many events, such as medical school graduations, including at the University of San Francisco.”

While the conference is directed at primary care and sponsored by Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Dr. Sepulveda said the conference committee would like to invite all Valley primary and specialty care physicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, medical students and other interested health professionals to see Dr. Z-Dogg and other speakers and to earn up to 14 hours of continuing medical education credits at the conference (including one hour of credit in ethics).

“This year’s conference, with its theme, ‘Reaching New Horizons’, is primarily designed for primary care physicians and medical practitioners in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology, surgery, emergency medicine and infectious diseases,” Dr. Sepulveda said. “The content is also appropriate for advanced practice nurses (APRN), physician assistants, pharmacists and registered nurses enrolled in advanced nurse practice programs.”

“The science of medicine is forever changing, and our 25th annual conference will provide physicians and other providers with concise and authoritative information on the most up-to-date treatment of problems frequently encountered but which can be difficult or confusing in practice,” Dr. Sepulveda added. “We are really proud of this year’s conference, which will feature stimulating lectures, case studies, audiovisual presentations, and audience participation sessions – all while allowing our medical professionals the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful weekend at the Island.”

In addition to Dr. Sepulveda, other committee members for the Valley’s 25th Annual CME Conference include Rosemary Recavarren, MD (Pathology and Chief of Staff for Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco); Ramiro Caballero, MD (Immediate Past Chief of Staff for Knapp); Michael DeCandia, MD (Radiology Services & Chief of Radiology at Knapp); Dionisio B. Calvo III, MD, CDE (Internal Medicine); Miguel Tello, MD (Family Medicine); Segundo Lizardo, MD (Pediatrics); Charles Zaremba, MD (Pathology); Anna Hinojosa, MSN, RN (Chief Nursing Officer for Knapp); and Beth M. Flores, BSN, RN-BC (Educator at Knapp).

The conference will kick off on Friday, April 28 with registration and a continental breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., and conclude at 5 p.m. that day. On Saturday, April 29, continental breakfast and registration will again run from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., with the conference concluding at 4:45 p.m.
