HMC is the only hospital in South Texas to rank in the top 10% for patient experience with Healthgrades
HARLINGEN, Texas – Harlingen Medical Center is the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley to be ranked among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient experience, receiving the “Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience” award.
Healthgrades, a national company which specializes in research and information about healthcare, evaluates patient experience based on 10 measures, using data collected from surveys of hospital patients.
Hospitals in the top 15% are recognized as Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ recipients. HMC ranked even higher – at 10% in the nation … and is the only hospital in all of South Texas (south of San Antonio and including San Antonio) to be ranked in the top 10% for patient experience for 2025.
The recognition is the latest accolade for Harlingen Medical Center, which was also once again the only hospital in the Harlingen area to receive an “A” grade for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group.
Todd Mann, the new CEO of Harlingen Medical Center, said these awards reflect “exceptional quality care” which is being provided to Rio Grande Valley patients by physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals at Harlingen Medical Center.
“These national distinctions indicate the level of commitment our employees have in ensuring our patients receive the best healthcare experience possible,” Mr. Mann said. “By treating each one of our patients with personalized attention and specialized care, our clinical and non-clinical staff prove each and every day that we are here to care for our community and that we are prepared to meet their healthcare needs.”
Edward Stiner Jr., Chief Nursing Officer for Harlingen Medical Center, said HMC’s outstanding rating is demonstrable proof that patients at the Harlingen hospital are receiving excellent care — and is an important tool for local residents to recognize when they weigh their healthcare options.
“Harlingen Medical Center’s clinical team works consistently to pursue the highest standards for clinical excellence — and we are extremely proud of this achievement,” Mr. Stiner added. “We at Harlingen Medical Center remain committed to the pursuit of patient-centered excellence in all that we do.”
In addition to the award for patient experience, Harlingen Medical Center has also received several other awards from Healthgrades, including the following:
- Five-Star Recipient for Pacemaker Procedures for 5 Years in a Row (2021-2025)
- Five-Star Recipient for Hip Fracture Treatment for 18 Years in a Row (2008-2025)
- Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Diabetic Emergencies for 3 Years in a Row (2023-2025)
- Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia for 2 Years in a Row (2024-2025)
“Healthgrades commends Harlingen Medical Center for their clear commitment to delivering consistently superior patient outcomes in critical service areas, including in pacemaker procedures, hip fracture treatment, treatment of diabetic emergencies, and treatment of patients with pneumonia,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades.
