Are you looking for ways to improve your health? Educate yourself on how to live healthier? Perhaps understand how you can ensure to maintain healthy bone structure into your golden years? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then come visit the Annual Harlingen Medical Center Ladies Day Out Health Fair and Doc Talk Lecture scheduled for Friday, May 12, 2017, at the hospital’s Main Lobby, between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

The Annual Harlingen Medical Center Ladies Day Out Health Fair will feature everything from complimentary blood pressure, blood sugar, vision, and dental screenings, to massage therapy, non-surgical and surgical weight loss options, education on the importance of a mammogram, and a Doc Talk Lecture on “Osteoporosis: What You Need to Know.”

The presenter of the special Doc Talk Lecture is Dr. Susan Redmond, Obstetrician / Gynecologist. She will host the education lecture in the Harlingen Medical Center Administration Classroom (located just to the right of the main lobby, also on the first floor of the hospital).

Dr. Redmond will discuss the misconceptions about osteoporosis, the importance of nurturing your bones and will highlight what you need to know to keep osteoporosis away.

Those who plan to attend the health fair and would like to partake of the medical screenings should note that it is recommended you be fasting if you want to have your blood sugar checked. Fasting should commence at least eight hours before having the screening performed.

“While we understand – more and more people are consistently visiting their family doctor for regular check-ups, we want to make sure everyone in the community has an opportunity to access some of the most basic medical services,” said Manny Chacon, Director of Business Development and Marketing at Harlingen Medical Center. “This health fair is one way we can offer the services to the entire community.”

In conjunction with Mother’s Day, the Annual Harlingen Medical Center Ladies Day Out Health Fair is an opportunity for the hospital to offer the potentially life-saving digital mammogram screening at its special rate of $99. The screening is performed with the utilization of a computer aided detection (CAD) system, which produces a digitized mammographic image from a conventional film mammogram or a digitally acquired mammogram is analyzed for masses, calcifications, or areas of abnormal density that may indicate the presence of cancer. The images are highlighted by the CAD system for further analysis by one of the HMC radiologists.

The $99 digital mammogram screening at Harlingen Medical Center will be offered during the entire month of May. Those interested in the screening may call the Registration Department at (956) 365-1839.

“The mammogram is one of the simplest ways to detect and battle breast cancer,” said Roy Castillo, Director of Radiology and Imaging Services at Harlingen Medical Center. “This is why we stress the importance of the screening.”

In addition to the medical screenings, the event will feature door prizes for attendees, refreshments, and a light breakfast. The event is free and open to the public.
