Internal Medicine Residency Program

Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Harlingen Medical Center

Harlingen Medical Center is proud to continue its commitment to serving the community and shaping the future of healthcare through education. Our comprehensive three-year Internal Medicine Residency Program provides 13 positions in each postgraduate year, with a total complement of 39 residents.

Through a rigorous curriculum, hands-on clinical experience, and mentorship from experienced faculty, our program prepares residents to excel in their medical careers while making a meaningful impact on patient care. We remain dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment that emphasizes excellence, innovation, and compassionate service.

Our Mission

The Harlingen Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program’s mission is to train diverse and compassionate physicians through a diverse range of clinical and educational experiences and to foster the continued quest for self-improvement and knowledge that leads to the advancement of health care and well-being among our residents and within the community they serve. Prime Healthcare’s mission is to save and improve hospitals so that they can deliver compassionate, quality care to patients and better healthcare for communities. Thus, the curriculum is designed to train internal medicine physicians with expertise in diagnosing and managing the care of patients with acute and complex illnesses; providing preventive healthcare services; advocating for health equity, and promoting access to healthcare for the members of the community.

Internal Medicine Residency Program

Our Internal Medicine Residency Program aims to:

Train excellent physicians to deliver broad healthcare services in a variety of settings including inpatient, ambulatory clinics, critical care units, and emergency departments, and reduce physician shortage in the community.
Foster a commitment to lifelong learning and promote continuous self-improvement.
Provide a supportive and engaging educational environment that promotes research and scholarship and the assimilation of evidence-based medicine into patient care.
Promote the advancement of health equity by addressing the community’s social determinants of health.
