Hospital volunteers at Harlingen Medical Center are known for giving back to the community and bringing smiles to the faces of patients and hospital employees. But this week, those volunteers will be bringing smiles to many others, outside the hospital, while holding the popular $5 jewelry sale which is open to the public.

The Harlingen Medical Center Volunteer Services Department will hold the annual “Masquerade $5 Jewelry Sale” Monday, August 22 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Tuesday, August 23, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the hospital’s Medical Office Building (MOB) Conference Room, located at 5505 S. Expressway 77, in Harlingen (on the first floor of the building closest to the Expressway, behind the elevators, in Suite 102).

The event will feature various items, all priced at $5, including watches, rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, sun glasses, scarfs, wallets, tech gadgets, and more.

“The items featured in this sale make for excellent gifts for spouses, children, parents, and friends – or for yourself,” said Gloria Gonzalez, Volunteer Services Coordinator for Harlingen Medical Center.

Cash and credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) are accepted at the sale.

At Harlingen Medical Center, hospital volunteers serve in several departments of the hospital, including Day Patient, Finance, Human Resources and Marketing. Volunteers deliver flowers and newspapers to new patients, perform clerical work, visit patients as chaplain volunteers, and much more.

Volunteers are assigned to a department / area according to their interests and the needs of the hospital.

“Our volunteers are extraordinary people who give generously of their time and of themselves, bringing kindness and a helping hand to our patients and staff,” Ms. Gonzalez added.

“We have several opportunities where we can utilize individual’s talents and skills to support the overall operation of the hospital, while assisting our staff in creating wonderful experiences for our patients,” she added.
