Do you suffer from aches and pains on your neck, shoulders, lower back; dealing with spinal cord injuries? If you are, then you should know that there are medical treatments that may be able to keep you out of the surgery room. Dr. Cynthia A. Garcia, a Physiatrist, and Partner-In-Care to Harlingen Medical Center (HMC), will discuss these treatment options when she offers the HMC Doc Talk Lecture titled, Alternative Treatments to Surgery – From the Bottom Up, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., at the hospital’s Medical Office Building (MOB) Conference Room, located at 5505 S. Expressway 77, in Harlingen.

Dr. Garcia is a highly sought after physician specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. At her Harlingen medical practice, Rio Center Physical Medicine, Dr. Garcia works to restore or maximize the functional skills, self-sufficiency, and mobility of people who have temporary or permanent physical disabilities resulting from injury or illness. She works with manual medicine which utilizes structural diagnoses and gentle manipulative procedures to increase mobility in restricted areas of musculoskeletal function and to reduce pain.

The Harlingen Medical Center Doc Talk Lecture, by Dr. Garcia, will feature an in depth PowerPoint on the topic and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. In her lecture, she will cover topics that include:

  • Who is a candidate for physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • Non-surgical treatments available for pain management
  • The latest non-surgical techniques to address
  • Neck, shoulder, and back aches & pains
  • How to get the patient back to their normal physical activity
  • Benefits of physical medicine and rehabilitation

The lecture is slated to offer additional insight into the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions including: neck and back pain, pain management, osteoporosis, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, joint surgery recovery and more.

“People who have frequent aches and pains in their body, areas that include the neck, shoulders, and lower back, may want to consider seeking non-surgical treatment,” said Dr. Garcia. “These individuals may experience some level of pain while attempting to do some form of movement or activity. But, that does not have to be the case, and, they can do it perhaps without surgery.”

The Harlingen Medical Center Doc Talk Lecture is open to the public and there is no fee to attend. If you would like to attend this lecture, you are kindly asked to RSVP with the Business Development and Marketing Department at (956) 365-1027 or at mchacon@primehealthcare.com.
