Robotics Assisted Surgery Westland Community Health Center

Harlingen Medical Center is proud to offer patients robotic-assisted surgeries through the acquisition of the facility’s da Vinci Si HD Surgical System. The da Vinci Si HD Surgical System was designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery. Now, via the service of physicians specifically trained and certified in the da Vinci Si HD Surgical System, patients may opt for minimally invasive, robotic surgical procedures in the areas of Gynecology, Urology, Thoracic and General Surgery.
Robotics is transforming healthcare, offering patients more effective minimally invasive surgery options that result in less trauma on the body and faster recovery times.

How it works

The da Vinci technology enables your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, and control. During minimally invasive surgery, surgeons operate through a few small incisions using long instruments and a tiny camera to guide doctors during surgery. By enabling efficient access throughout the abdomen or chest, the da Vinci Si HD Surgical System features special surgical instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand. The surgeon sits at a console and performs the procedure using a magnified vision system that gives your surgeon a 3D HD view of your body.

Robotic-assisted surgery via the da Vinci Si HD Surgical System offers the following potential benefits compared to other methods:

  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Fewer complications
  • The smaller incision for less scaring
  • Faster return to daily activities

The da Vinci Si HD System is a robotically-assisted surgical device where your surgeon is 100% in control of the procedure at all times.

Important Information for Patients

Serious complications may occur in any surgery, including da Vinci Surgery, up to and including death. Risks include, but are not limited to, injury to tissues and organs and conversion to other surgical techniques. If you doctor needs to convert the surgery to another surgical technique, this could result in longer operative time, additional or larger incisions and/or increased complications.

Individual surgical results may vary. Patients who are not candidates for non-robotic minimally invasive surgery are also not candidate for da Vinci Surgery. Patients should talk to their doctor to decide if da Vinci Surgery is right for them. Patients and doctors should review all available information on non-surgical and surgical options in order to make an informed decision. Please also refer to for important safety information.
