Wound Treatment Program
You will undergo a thorough diagnostic examination to identify the type of wound you have and the underlying problems causing the wound. After this, a program specifically tailored to your needs will be initiated based on the most effective treatment options. Your treatment may include:
- Checking circulation
- Testing for sensation
- Vascular evaluation
- Checking for foot deformities
- Skin assessment
- Debridement
Once a treatment plan has been initiated, you will visit our center on a regular basis for wound care. You will be instructed on how to administer your own wound care at home between visits, as well as how to protect your wound from further complications. You are the most important part of your healing process. Keeping appointments and following directions clearly are critical to attaining a positive healing outcome.
Additional Therapy
Sometimes your wounds will not respond to general wound care treatments alone. For some patients, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is an effective technology that supplements the other treatment methods used by physicians. HBO therapy involves daily visits to the center for a period of three to four weeks, then follow-up wound care to monitor the healing process. During HBO therapy you are placed in a pressurized chamber where you breathe 100% oxygen. This increases the presence of oxygen within the wound and aids in the healing and growth of new tissue.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy assists with the healing of:
- Diabetic wounds of the lower extremity
- Post-radiation tissue injury
- Crush injuries
- Compromised grafts and flaps
- Gangrene
- Pressure ulcers
